The event will bring together youth and young adult volunteers from across the South West region to celebrate their contribution to the community in a relaxed and inclusive environment near Koombana Bay. It has been co-designed by young adult volunteers from headspace Bunbury and the Blue Leaf Initiative, in collaboration with Volunteer South West, City of Bunbury, and Freedom.
This event is supported by the Department of Communities.
Volunteering Structure
We want to ensure you are supported in your role as volunteer. As an active volunteer for Blue Leaf Initiative, we expect the following commitment:
1. Interview
This involves meeting with the Coordinator and answering a few questions about why you want to be involved, your skillset, availability, and what you want to get out of volunteering. It is also a chance for you to clarify any questions you may have.
2. Induction Day
Meet likeminded volunteers and become familiar with our organisation. You will receive an orientation, chat about expectations and responsibilities, deep dive on your values, and learn how to access additional support.
3. Online Onboarding
You can log onto Processworx at any time to upload your documentation (e.g., National Police Clearance, Working With Children’s Check, First Aid, CPR, Driver’s License) and complete the online modules (Human Resources, Work Health and Safety, and Child Safety).
4. Volunteer 1-on-1 Catch Ups
Volunteers are required to meet one-on-one with a Blue Leaf staff member at least once every 6 months. This is an informal check-in to reflect on your goals, skills, and contributions—and yes, we’ll shout you a hot drink!
5. safeTALK Training (Optional but highly recommended)
safeTALK is a half-day alertness workshop that prepares anyone, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide alert helper.
6. Volunteer Training Session (Optional but highly recommended)
Learn about community engagement and development, event planning, grant writing, risk management, culture-building, and all things volunteering.
7. Volunteer Feedback & Evaluation
Towards the end of the year, we’ll invite you to a feedback session to evaluate your experience and help shape the future of Blue Leaf. If in-person chats aren’t for you, no worries—we’ll also provide an anonymous online survey.
